AniQuiz is a free anime trivia site, built by one person who loves anime.
No ads during gameplay, no signup required for solo play, 1,200+ anime, 35,000+ approved trivia questions, 23 game modes. The whole project is a hobby — built and maintained by one person, hosted on a tiny Fly + Vercel + Neon stack, paid out of pocket.
Why this site exists
The big anime sites (MyAnimeList, AniList, IMDb) are great catalogs. They're not great quiz games. Sporcle and JetPunk have anime sections that haven't been updated in years. Discord quiz bots are clunky. There was room for a fast, modern, mobile-friendly trivia game that actually keeps up with what's airing this season — so I built one.
Every quiz mode here was picked because I'd want to play it. Eyes Only came from arguing with a friend about whether you could identify anime characters from just their eye design (you can, mostly). The OP 1-second mode came from those YouTube videos where people guess the song from a single chord. Anidle is a Wordle clone but for anime.
What's in the bank
Curated continuously since launch from Anime Corner + Anime Trending fan polls (2020 onward) plus the all-time MAL top list. Questions are a three-tier mix: hand-curated, Jikan-templated, and LLM deep-dive (every LLM row is human-audited for spoilers before going live in mixed pools).
How it's built
Next.js 16 (App Router) on Vercel for the web app, Colyseus 0.16 on Fly.io for the realtime multiplayer server, Neon Postgres for storage, Supabase Auth for sign-in, Cloudflare CDN (cdn.aniquiz.app) for media. Observability via Sentry + Axiom + Google Analytics 4 + Microsoft Clarity. Everything runs on free tiers because that's what a hobby project can afford.

Content + licensing
Anime cover art, character portraits, OP/ED audio clips, and quotes are short-form excerpts used under DMCA-safe-harbor and fair-use doctrines — the same legal lane MyAnimeList, AniList, and IMDb operate in. OP/ED audio is sourced from the AnimeThemes community project with per-clip provenance tracked in the database. DMCA takedown agent is registered; per-clip removal is one URL and a 10-business-day SLA.
AniQuiz is not affiliatedwith any anime studio, publisher, licensor, streaming service, or fan project. It's an independent hobby site.
